As Christian moms seeking to build a lasting legacy, understanding God’s perspective on money management isn’t just helpful; it’s essential. Today, let’s explore five foundational principles that will transform our perspective on and approach to managing our finances through a biblical lens.
1. Everything Belongs to God
Psalm 24:1 says, "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and. those who dwell therein."
When we truly grasp that we’re stewards rather than owners, it changes everything. Every dollar in our account is a gift from God, requiring honorable management. This shift in perspective helps us make decisions that honor Him first, rather than just serving our immediate desires.
2. Contentment is Key
1 Timothy 6:6 says, "But godliness with contentment is great gain"
In our Pinterest-perfect world, it’s easy to fall into the comparison trap. However, true financial peace comes from finding contentment in God’s provision. When we focus on what we have rather than what we lack, we can better steward our resources and find joy in our current season.
3. Generosity Opens Doors
Luke 6:38 says, "Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you."
Generosity isn’t about the amount; it’s about the heart behind it. When we give cheerfully, we participate in God’s economy of abundance. Remember, giving is actually investing with guaranteed eternal returns.
4. Wisdom in Planning
Proverbs 21:5 says, "The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty."
God encourages us to be intentional with our finances. Creating budgets, saving for the future, and seeking wise counsel aren’t just practical steps; they’re spiritual disciplines that demonstrate our commitment to good stewardship.
5. Trust in God’s Provision
Philippians 4:19 says, "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."
During uncertain times, remember that God’s peace transcends bank balances. He often provides in unexpected ways; through hidden resources, newfound wisdom, or opened doors we never anticipated.
Reflection Questions
- Do you view your money as something you own—or something God has entrusted to you to steward? What would change if you fully embraced stewardship?
- What does your current spending (and saving) reveal about your priorities? Where is it aligned with your values, and where is it out of alignment?
- What area of your finances is causing you the most stress right now (debt, lack, overspending, comparison, uncertainty)? What specific truth from Scripture do you need to cling to in that area?
- What is one obedient next step you can take this week to manage money with wisdom and intention (create a simple budget, track spending, set a giving goal, start a debt plan, or schedule a money check-in)?
A Prayer for Biblical Money Management
